College Community Mourns the Loss of Alums Marcus Hunt and Marcel Fremont

In Memoriam: Marcus Hunt (SF95)
Marcus Hunt, businessman and philanthropist from in El Paso, TX died on June 24, 2008, at his family vacation home in La Jolla, CA.
Marcus was fourth-generation in the Hunt family businesses. He served as the financial manager for investments of Hunt Companies, Inc. and affiliate companies, as well as the Managing Partner for Hunt Holdings, L.P. He was president of the Hunt Family Foundation, a charitable trust set up to serve non-profit organizations in the El Paso southwest region. He had recently been named chairman of REDCO, the Regional Economic Development Corporation of El Paso, Las Cruces, and Ciudad Juarez.
Marcus was actively involved in economic development in the El Paso area, having served as a board member of the El Paso/Juarez World Trade Center and the Camino Real Angels, and as a member of the Paso del Norte Group. He was on the boards of the New Mexico Nature Conservancy, the El Paso County Historical Society, Project Arriba, the Trans-Pecos Regional Center for Innovation and Commercialization, and the Lydia Patterson Institute.
Mr. Hunt graduated from St. John’s College - Santa Fe in 1995, and studied law at Golden Gate University in San Francisco. He is survived by his wife Stacey and their two daughters. Marcus had been eagerly anticipating the birth of a son in August.

In Memoriam: Marcel Fremont (SF01)
Marcel David Fremont, 29, of Oak Park, IL and St. Louis, MO, was killed on June 25, 2008 when his motorcycle collided with a truck in northern Montana. Marcel attended Ascension Grammar School and graduated from OPRFHS in Oak Park, IL in 1997. He graduated from St. John’s College in Santa Fe, New Mexico in 2001. He was to begin his doctoral studies in neuroscience at Washington University, St. Louis, and was traveling around the country to visit family and friends.
The funeral was held on Tuesday, July 1, in Oak Park, IL, and was followed by an open mic celebration of Marcel’s life at FitzGerald’s Bar & Grill in Berwyn, IL.
