Opening Reception for the “Elegant
Salon” Exhibtion at St.
John’s Mitchell

A
new exhibition, “The Elegant Salon: European Academic Paintings from the
Syracuse University Collection,”
is on view at the Mitchell
Gallery at St. John’s College and features an opening reception
with a program for families. At the Opening Reception and Family Program Art
Educator Lucinda Edinberg will lead a tour of “The Elegant Salon” exhibition
followed by a hands-on workshop, on September 21, from 3:30 –5 p.m.
The exhibition, which is on view from
August 27 – October 10, is infused with the spirit of 17th- and 18th-century
Europe, a time when Salons – opulent literary, artistic, and philosophical gatherings –were
held and artists pursued the rich and rigorous traditions of academic art.
