Opening Reception for the “Elegant Salon” Exhibtion at St. John’s Mitchell Gallery

A new exhibition, “The Elegant Salon: European Academic Paintings from the Syracuse University Collection,” is on view at the Mitchell Gallery at St. John’s College and features an opening reception with a program for families.   At the Opening Reception and Family Program Art Educator Lucinda Edinberg will lead a tour of “The Elegant Salon” exhibition followed by a hands-on workshop, on September 21, from 3:30 –5 p.m.

The exhibition, which is on view from August 27 – October 10, is infused with the spirit of 17th- and 18th-century Europe, a time when Salons – opulent literary, artistic, and philosophical gatherings –were held and artists pursued the rich and rigorous traditions of academic art.
